Vallourec will deliver fittings for the Yamal LNG project in the Arctic
Vallourec Fittings has been awarded an order for the Yamal LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) project, one of the largest undertakings in the Arctic based in the estuary of the Ob River in Russia, which is ice-bound nine months of the year. The project ensures production and marketing of the Russian Arctic’s vast natural gas reserves and entails the drilling of over 200 wells and the construction of 3 LNG trains, each with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year.
For the Yamal Project, Vallourec Fittings will provide more than 3,800 carbon steel seamless elbows, which will be welded on pipes to allow a change of direction of flow while resisting mechanical constraints (such as pressure and extreme climatic conditions of use).
Made of Vallourec seamless carbon pipes, these elbows ranging from 2’’ (114 mm ) to 16’’ (406 mm) outside diameter in 45° and 90° shapes will be tailor manufactured in Maubeuge (France), according to the international standard ASTM A420 WPL6 - piping material for low temperature and extreme climatic conditions. Manufacturing takes approximately 4 months and first deliveries are expected at the end of October 2015.
According Vallourec this is a new milestone in their recent project history as it is pushing the boundaries of their expertise and performance.
